What culinary grade matcha is for
Culinary matcha is the workhorse grade — built for applications where matcha is an ingredient rather than the main event. It has a stronger, more assertive flavour than ceremonial grade, which is actually an advantage when it's competing with milk, sugar, butter or chocolate in a recipe. That extra punch means the matcha flavour comes through in the finished product instead of disappearing behind everything else.

- Bakeries and patisseries — matcha cakes, cookies, macarons, croissants. Culinary grade holds its colour and flavour through baking better than ceremonial, and at a fraction of the cost.
- Cafes and drink brands — matcha lattes, smoothies, frappes, iced drinks. If your matcha is always blended with milk and sweetener, culinary grade delivers the right flavour at the right price point.
- Food manufacturers — protein bars, supplement blends, ice cream, ready meals. Consistent batch quality matters more than single-origin provenance when you're running a production line.
- Dessert and chocolate makers — truffles, matcha white chocolate, panna cotta, mousse. The strong green colour of culinary matcha holds up well in dairy-based desserts.
Japanese vs Chinese origin
We offer culinary matcha from both Japan and China, and we're honest about the trade-offs. Japanese culinary matcha costs more but carries the origin story that premium-positioned brands want on their labels. Chinese culinary matcha has closed the quality gap significantly in recent years and comes in at a lower price point — sometimes 30% to 40% less per kilo at bulk volumes.
For most food production and blended drink applications, Chinese origin culinary matcha performs just as well. Where origin matters — artisan bakeries with a "Japanese ingredients" positioning, or retail products where customers check the back of the pack — Japanese origin is worth the premium.

Pricing and volumes
Culinary grade matcha is priced to work as a production ingredient. Our wholesale range starts at 250g pouches for cafes testing recipes, with 500g and 1kg bags for regular use. Bulk supply from 5kg upward is priced on a quote basis, with meaningful discounts kicking in above 25kg.
At volume, culinary matcha is one of the more cost-effective ways to add a premium ingredient to your product line. A kilo of culinary grade goes a long way — roughly 200 matcha lattes, 80 to 100 cakes, or 400+ supplement servings depending on the formulation.
Quality standards
Culinary grade doesn't mean low quality. Our culinary matcha is organic certified, tested for heavy metals and pesticide residues, and ships with a certificate of analysis. The colour should be a clean green (not brown, not yellow), and the flavour should be distinctly matcha, not just "green tea dust." We reject batches that don't meet that baseline, regardless of origin.
