The matcha grade that makes commercial recipes work
Culinary grade matcha exists for one reason: to deliver genuine matcha flavour, colour and character in products where it's being mixed, baked, blended or processed alongside other ingredients. If you're a bakery going through 50kg a month, this is the grade that makes your margins work without compromising on the matcha experience your customers expect.
Unlike ceremonial grade — which is designed for drinking straight — culinary matcha has a stronger, more assertive flavour profile that holds its own against sugar, dairy, flour, chocolate and fruit. That boldness is a feature, not a flaw. It's why your matcha croissants actually taste like matcha and your latte doesn't vanish behind the milk.
Available in Japanese and Chinese origin
We supply culinary grade matcha from both Japanese and Chinese producers. Japanese-origin culinary matcha carries a slightly sweeter base note and commands a premium, making it a good fit for brands that want "Japanese matcha" on the label. Chinese-origin culinary matcha delivers comparable performance in recipes at a lower price point — ideal for high-volume manufacturing where cost per unit matters most.
During the quoting process, we'll help you match the right origin and grade to your specific application, volume and budget.
Who this is built for
- Bakeries and patisseries — matcha that holds its vivid green through oven temperatures and retains flavour in cakes, biscuits, pastries and bread
- Ice cream and dessert producers — consistent colour and taste across large batch production runs
- Food manufacturers — ingredient-grade matcha for energy bars, snack products, confectionery and chocolate
- Drink brands — RTD matcha lattes, smoothie bases, functional drink powders and concentrate formulations
- Supplement companies — matcha powder for capsule filling, sachet packing and superfood blends
- Cafes and food service — everyday matcha latte stock that delivers at scale
Why culinary, not ceremonial, for food products
The most common mistake first-time matcha buyers make is ordering ceremonial grade for recipes. Ceremonial matcha is delicate, subtle and expensive — three qualities that get completely lost the moment you mix it into cake batter or blend it with milk and ice. You're paying a premium for nuance that your end product can't showcase.
Culinary grade gives you the colour intensity, the recognisable matcha flavour and the functional properties your product needs, at a price point that makes your cost of goods sensible. That's not a compromise — it's the right tool for the job.
Volumes and packaging
Bulk supply runs from 5kg up to 1 tonne. Packaging options include foil-lined bags, vacuum-sealed packs and food-grade drums depending on volume and storage requirements. We can work with your existing supply chain format.
Storage guidance for commercial kitchens
Store in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight and strong odours. Matcha absorbs moisture and scent easily, so keep bags sealed between uses. In a busy kitchen, decant working stock into opaque airtight containers and keep bulk supply in a separate storage area.
Shelf life is 12 to 18 months sealed. Once opened, aim to use within 3 to 6 months for best colour performance — culinary matcha that's started to yellow will still taste fine but won't deliver the visual impact your products need.
